Joyce Jin

Pianist

Born in New York City in 2014, Joyce Jin began playing piano at the age of five, and has studied with Cong Ji, Qinghong Lian, Yinfei Wang, and her current teacher Tatiana Goncharova.

Joyce has won many youth piano competitions, including the first prizes at the Apex International Music Competition (2021), Elite International Music Competition (2022), Young Maestro International Competition (2023), and VIVO International Music Competition (2024), and was a finalist at the East African Young Musicians Competition (2025). She has performed on prestigious stages such as Carnegie Hall, Steinway Hall, and Kaufman Music Center, and has played online for homebound elders through Concerts in Motion. Apart from being a pianist, Joyce is also a percussionist, playing marimba in her school orchestra and percussion ensemble.

After studying at the United Nations International School in New York City from kindergarten to 4th grade, Joyce moved to Nairobi in 2024 with her parents. A 7th grader at Peponi House Preparatory School, Joyce loves math and also plays tennis, hockey, and netball. Joyce speaks Mandarin, English, and French, as well as modest Swahili and Spanish. She enjoys baking for her family and solving jigsaw puzzles during her free time.

Enkare String Trio

The Enkare String Trio is named after the place their members consider their musical home: “Enkare”, name for the city of Nairobi in Maa (Maasai). With over a decade of performance experience, they play both classical and contemporary music. Members of the trio have featured locally and internationally with the Nairobi Orchestra and Cellobration in Kenya; Dar Choral Society in Tanzania; BISYOC Intercultural Youth Orchestra and Amadeus Orchestra in the UK; and Cello Ensemble Freude, Dalminer Orchestra, and Orchestra of Pavia in Italy. They also tutor primary and secondary school students in their respective instruments.
Nairobi Music Society, a nonprofit community of singers, musicians, and music lovers. Since 1938, we’ve presented concerts, recitals, and choral events that keep classical music alive in Kenya.
