The Nairobi Music Society (NMS) is one of Kenya’s oldest and most respected musical institutions. Established in 1938, the Society has been at the heart of Nairobi’s cultural life for over 80 years. We bring together singers, instrumentalists, conductors, and music enthusiasts who share a passion for classical and choral music.
To promote music through orchestral, choral, and solo concerts, recitals, and events.
To create opportunities for learning and collaboration with musicians and music educators.
To remain a nonprofit, donation-funded society where every contribution supports live music in Nairobi.
How We’re Run
The Society is governed by a Constitution and managed by a voluntary committee, elected annually by the members. The Committee ensures the smooth running of rehearsals, concerts, and finances, while all proceeds are reinvested directly into music-making.
Our Objectives
Present concerts and recitals across orchestral, choral, and solo disciplines.
Host musical events that engage both performers and audiences.
Liaise with other musical bodies and support music education in Kenya.
Our Legacy
For over 80 years, NMS has been home to both Kenyan and international musicians. From large-scale classical works to intimate recitals, our stage has welcomed performers of all ages and backgrounds.
